We went to Changgyeong Palace during the weekend when the palaces are open at night. The palaces are only open at night twice a year and this was one of those times. Afterwards we ate at the Hello Kitty Cafe near Heyhwa station. It was like in one of those tragic historical korean dramas/films. It was so beautiful. For some reason it makes me think of Hwangjini, even though I haven’t seen any of the films based on her life. I’ve only seen trailers. haha.

This particular palace is significant because I believe this one was the personal palace of the royal family, but I’m not sure. It is smaller than Gyeongbokgung. This palace was damaged by the Japanese who installed a zoo and other things such as the lake in the palace. My friend who doesn’t like the Japanese government or this time period where the Japanese invaded Korea very much, had mentioned this to me.

Hello, this is Christina. I am using this blog to chronicle my study abroad experiences at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea and the days approaching it. I will be an exchange student for Autumn semester 2011 and I hope to learn a lot while I'm there!
